Casey has been working on her novel for six years, but grieving for her mother's recent death and a failed romantic relationship make it difficult for her to complete it. Strapped with crippling student loan debt, Casey waits tables and lives in a cheap moldy "potting shed" she rents from a haughty friend of her brother's. When she is finally able to get health insurance, Casey discovers that she has several medical issues that could be serious. Everything seems to be going wrong in her life when she begins dating two somewhat troubled but kind men who ultimately give her the confidence she needs to re-focus on completing her novel. Author Lily King does a good job of communicating the agonies and ecstasies of writing a book, but she did not develop her characters as well as she could have. This novel will most strongly appeal to would-be writers and artists who are struggling with life's many and varied distractions.
